2019.01.20. What is a Prayer? Poem By Andrey Gidaspov
* What is a Prayer? *
You asked me,
What is a prayer?
It’s a cry of my soul,
A fiery thread
That connects
My essence,
The depth
Of my being
With the Heavenly bliss,
The voice of my spirit,
The flight of my song,
Soaring to reach my truth,
My meaning,
My life before
Adam’s fall.
You asked me,
What is a prayer?
It’s my hope,
My faith in my Creator,
When I’m kneeling,
When I’m in despair,
When the chains of my sins
Are unbearable,
When the abyss reveals itself
And darkness prevails
In a demonic grasp
Strangling the best in me,
And all that I see
Is the dust of a desert,
And the only thing
That keeps me sane
Is that tiny flame,
An eternal breath,
Tenderly laid
By my Lord
In my chest;
A fatherly kiss,
A cradle of hope,
When He’s
Looking at me
At that very moment,
When I opened my eyes
For the first time
Through the eyes of Adam,
And saw His loving glance,
His celestial smile
On the meadows
Of the universe,
The wholeness,
The wisdom,
The Kingdom of Heaven
He planted deep in my soul.
You asked me,
What is a prayer?
It’s my letter to God,
It’s my promise,
My yearning,
My unquenchable thirst
For His Love;
Like a dove
In a cage,
I’m throwing myself
Against the wall
That prevents my soul
From seeing the Lord,
As I’m seeking the door,
That window,
That route,
That lets me out,
And sets me free
Leading my spirit
To eternity.
