Meditation on Scripture: Matthew 9: 37 "Diligent Workers"

"The harvest is great, but the workers are few” (Matthew 9: 37)

Meditation:
Wonderful summer days, plentiful fields, dotted with flowers, pastures covered with ripening ears of grain – how easy it is to compare this to a human life! Every day sent to us by God represents countless occasions to serve Him, and every minute, as long as we are constantly vigilant, is like a wonderful flower opening to our sight; we must carry its beauty and fragrance to those dark corners which are deprived of God’s light.

The field of our life is covered with unripe ears of grain promising a bountiful harvest in the future. Let us not neglect them, let us not lose a minute or a single chance to fertilize the field and help these growths to ripen. Great opportunities are open to us, and it is within our power to use them or to be lazy and do nothing. Let us all ask ourselves how we have used yesterday’s opportunities. Let each of us at the end of the week, having reached the day of the Lord, look back at the previous seven days, and see what our field looks like – will it be blooming, will we see ripe fruit, or will we have to admit that everything is neglected, not cultivated, overgrown, stagnant, and perishing without diligent care!

Let us remember how precious time is, and let us not waste a minute. Then the field of life will appear to us in all its flowering beauty. There are many harvests everywhere. Let us hurry to be diligent workers in the field of the Lord, and let us decide to give our entire life to it.

День за днем. 9 сентября (22) 
«Жатвы много, а делателей мало» (Мф. 9:37)

Чудные, летние дни, богатое поле, усеянное цветами, нивы, покрытые созревающими колосьями, – как легко уподобить все это жизни человеческой! Каждый день, посланный нам Господом, представляет бесчисленное множество случаев для служения Ему, каждая минута, если только мы будем постоянно настороже, есть как бы чудный цветок, открывающийся нашим взорам; его красу, его благоухание мы должны нести в те темные углы, которые лишены Божьего света.

Наше жизненное поле усеяно незрелыми колосьями, обещающими богатый урожай в будущем, о, не станем пренебрегать ими, не будем терять ни одной минуты, ни одного случая удобрить ниву, помочь созреванию этих плодов. Широкое поприще открыто нам, и в нашей воле потрудиться на нем или лениво сложить руки. Пусть каждый спросит себя сегодня: как употребил он вчерашний день? Пусть в конце недели, достигнув дня Господня, каждый оглянется назад, на пройденную седмицу, каким представится ему его поле, – будет ли оно цвести, увидит ли он на нем зрелые плоды, или же придется сознаться, что все запущено, не возделано, все заросло, заглохло, все погибает без бдительного ухода!

Вспомним, как дорого время, и не будем терять ни минуты даром, тогда жизненное поле представится нам во всей своей цветущей красе. Жатвы везде много, поспешим же быть усердными работниками на ниве Господней и решимся отдать ей всю нашу жизнь.
