Meditation on Scripture: Luke 2: 7 "Making Room At The Inn"

"There was no room for them at the inn” (Luke 2: 7)

Meditation:
Let us recall the touching story of the Birth of Christ, and let us appreciate not only the description of the external facts, but also the deep spiritual meaning of those events for each one of us. There was no room at the inn for the One Who came to save mankind, and Who was the Son of God and King of the world!

The influx of people in Bethlehem was too great. Everyone was hurrying there for that which seemed to them to be the most important thing at that moment, and that important thing ousted the Savior Himself from their midst! Getting closer to recollecting the greatest event of the Christian world, and preparing to celebrate the feast of the Birth of Christ, many things worry, occupy and absorb us, much of which seems to us to be necessary at this time, and which is not even of a personal concern to us. But let us not let all this drown out the main thing in our heart. Let us give the first place to our Savior, let us receive Him once again with the love which strives to help and console, and makes the lives of our brothers more pleasant.

Amid all the noise and all the hustle and bustle of life which usually accompanies big feasts, let us always see before us the image of the Divine Infant, so that we cannot say that there was no room for Him!

And in His name, filled with His spirit, let us do only what is good, and lay aside all earthly concerns.

«Не было им места в гостинице» (Лк. 2:7)

Вспомним трогательный рассказ о Рождестве Христовом и проникнемся не oдним только повествованием внешних фактов, но и глубоким духовным значением всего совершившегося для каждого из нас. Не нашлось места в гостинице для Того, Кто пришел спасти человечество, Кто был Сын Божий и Царь мира!

Наплыв в Вифлееме был слишком велик, все спешили туда для того, что казалось им самым важным в эту минуту, и это важное вытеснило из их среды Самого Спасителя! Приближаясь к воспоминаниям о величайшем событии христианского мира и готовясь встретить праздник Рождества Христова, очень многое нас волнует, занимает, поглощает, много такого, что кажется нам необходимым в это время, и что даже не составляет для нас исключительно личную заботу. Но не дадим всему этому заглушить главное в нашем сердце, дадим в нем первое место нашему Спасителю, примем Его еще раз с тою любовью, которая стремится помочь и утешить, усладить жизнь наших братьев.

Среди всего шума, всей житейской суеты, сопровождающей обыкновенно большие праздники, будем постоянно иметь перед глазами образ Божественного Младенца, чтобы нельзя было сказать, что у нас места Ему не нашлось!

И во имя Его, проникнувшись Его духом, будем творить одно добро, отложив в сторону всякие земные заботы.
