Meditation on Scripture: 2Cor. 3: 2 "You Are Christ's Letter"

"You are our letter, written on your hearts, known and read by everyone” (2Cor. 3: 2)

Meditation:
This is how St. Paul defines the level of morality of the Corinthians; for him, they represent a letter of Christ, written by the Spirit of the living God…”on tablets of human hearts” (2Cor. 3: 3).

Each one of us has this letter inside us, it is the word which the Lord speaks to every person, which applies just to him, and not to anyone else, as personal good news, directed to him. If we look back to our past, we will see many instances when this voice sounded in the depths of our hearts, calling us to the Lord. This divine call, inscribed on the tablets of our hearts, is the letter which can never, and must never, be erased.

Let everyone ask themselves what use he has made of this letter. Have we left it unnoticed or put it off as unnecessary? Is it possible that that which is written by the Spirit of the living God will not lead us to complete rebirth?

St. Paul speaks with such conviction about the newly converted Corinthians that this letter is “known and read by everyone”. He apparently did not doubt that the knowledge of the truth confirmed them in an unshakeable faith which they now openly testify to, thus presenting a live witness to the faith they have acquired.

May the example of these Corinthians not go unnoticed for us as well. Let us recall more frequently and let us be filled with the high purpose to which we are summoned: we are a “temple of the living God”, and we are a “letter of Christ, written by the Spirit of the living God”. Let us keep the temple of our soul absolutely clean, in total humility and unshakeable faith. Let us fill it with the pure incense of a sincere love of the Lord and total submission to His Holy will. Let us also be for others an open letter of God, declaring His Word with our every action and with our whole life!

«Вы – наше письмо, написанное в сердцах наших, узнаваемое и читаемое всеми человеками» (2Кор. 3:2)

Вот как ап. Павел определяет степень нравственного уровня коринфян; для него они представляют собою то письмо Христово, написанное Духом Бога живого… «на плотяных скрижалях сердца» (2Кор. 3:3).

Письмо это каждый из нас имеет в себе, оно есть то слово, которое Господь говорит каждому человеку, которое относится именно к нему, а не к другому, как личная благая весть, обращенная к нему. Оглянемся назад, на наше прошлое, и перед нами возникает не один случай, когда в глубине нашего сердца прозвучал этот голос, призывающий нас к Господу. Этот божественный призыв, начертанный на скрижалях сердца нашего, и есть то письмо, которое не может и не должно никогда изгладиться.

Пусть же каждый спросит у себя, какое употребление нашел он для этого письма? Неужели мы оставили его незамеченным или отложили, как ненужное, неужели начертанное Духом Бога живого не приведет нас к полному перерождению?

Ап. Павел с такою уверенностью говорит про вновь обращенных коринфян, что письмо это «узнаваемое и читаемое всеми». Очевидно, он не сомневался, что познание истины утвердило их в непоколебимой вере, которую они отныне открыто исповедуют, принося тем самым живое свидетельство обретенной ими веры.

Пусть же пример этих коринфян не пройдет незамеченным и для нас с вами. Будем чаще вспоминать, будем все больше проникаться тем высоким назначением, к которому мы призваны: мы – «храм Бога живого», и мы «письмо Христово, написанное Духом Бога живого». Будем же соблюдать храм души нашей в совершенной чистоте, в полном смирении, в непоколебимой вере. Воскурим в нем чистый фимиам неподдельной любви к Господу и беспрекословной покорности Его Святой воле. Будем и для других открытым письмом Божиим, возвещающим слово Его каждым нашим действием и всею нашею жизнью!
