(2) Unity, perseverance, and courage, in the face of persecution, as a witness to Christ; 
(3) Joyful confrontation of suffering, seen as an opportunity to expose our selfishness and egocentrism and to deal with it. The heart of asceticism is cutting off our selfishness/ego; 
(4) 2:5ff. An ancient hymn, Christ emptying himself, taking the form of a servant, and humbling himself even to death on a cross. Our example. The basis of the Orthodox mindset and Kenotic theology. An extensive discussion of this topic.
