Meditation on Scripture: Psalm 9:9 "The Lord Helps In Our Grief"

“The Lord also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble.”  (Psalm 9:9)

Meditation:
Where are we to go in our grief? There is no one who has not experienced grief, so this question concerns everyone. The Lord and our Teacher, Whom we want to follow, has shown us the way to find refuge in times of grief: “and being in anguish, He prayed more earnestly” (Luke 22:44). Approaching the Garden of Gethsemane in our thoughts, let us learn this prayer from Him. He experienced great grief, and He prayed to the Father that this grief pass Him by. This example of the Savior gives us the right to pray that the Lord deliver us from sorrow or danger that threatens us. The Lord permits such prayer.

But the prayer of the Son of God was inseparably linked with the feeling of complete submission to the will of the Father: “Not My will but Yours be done" (Luke 22:42). True prayer, a prayer pleasing to God, must always be imbued with this spirit.

We do not know what is best for us. We do not know what benefit our grief can bring to us or to others, we do not know what we would be deprived of if this grief were to pass us by. Therefore, let us leave everything to Him: “Not my will but Yours be done!”

The Savior’s prayer did not go unanswered. He was strengthened and given assistance. Although the bitter cup did not pass him by, although he had to drink it to the last drop, the reply came in a different way. His prayer helped the Divine Sufferer and gave Him the strength to take upon Himself the heavy cross and to carry it to the end. Isn't this the best answer to any grief? Three times the Savior withdrew into the depths of the garden of Gethsemane and each time His mortal anguish diminished, and finally the struggle ended, He was victorious, and complete peace filled His soul.

The Lord always answers prayers. The answer is either direct, giving us what we ask for, or it is expressed in the possibility of humbly and joyfully accepting God's will. When we retire to pray we will always find comfort and peace. In this solitude an Angel of the Lord will appear to us, strengthening us in our mortal grief, and we will receive the fortitude to bear any trial.

«И будет Господь прибежищем угнетенному, прибежищем во времена скорби» (Пс. 9:10)

Куда нам идти в нашей скорби? Нет человека, который бы не испытал горя, поэтому и вопрос этот касается каждого. Господь и Учитель наш, за Которым мы хотим следовать, указал нам путь к убежищу во время скорби: «и находясь в борении, прилежнее молился» (Лк. 22:44). Подойдя мысленно к саду Гефсиманскому, научимся от Него этой молитве. Великая скорбь посетила Его, и Он молил Отца о миновании этой скорби. Пример Спасителя дает нам право молиться, чтобы Господь избавил нас от горя или грозящей нам опасности, Господь допускает такую молитву.

Но молитва Сына Божия была неразрывно связана с чувством совершенной покорности воле Отца: «Не Моя воля, но Твоя да будет» (Лк. 22:42). Молитва истинная, молитва, угодная Богу, должна быть всегда проникнута таким же духом.

Мы не знаем, что для нас лучше. Мы не знаем, какую пользу наше горе может принести нам или другим, не знаем, чего бы мы лишились, если бы это горе нас миновало. Поэтому предоставим все Ему: «Не моя воля, но Твоя да будет!».

Молитва Спасителя не осталась без ответа. Он получил подкрепление и помощь. Хотя горькая чаша не миновала Его, хотя Он должен был испить ее до последней капли, однако ответ явился другим образом. Молитва подкрепила Божественного Страдальца и дала Ему силу принять на Себя тяжелый крест и нести его до конца. Не лучший ли это ответ на всякую скорбь?

Три раза Спаситель удалялся в глубину Гефсиманского сада, с каждым разом смертельная тоска Его уменьшалась, и наконец борьба окончилась, Он одержал победу, и полный мир водворился в душе Его.

Господь всегда отвечает на молитву. Ответ является или прямо, даруя нам то, о чем мы просим, или же он выражается в возможности с покорностью и с радостью принять волю Божию. Уединяясь для молитвы, мы всегда найдем утешение и мир. В этом уединении нам явится Ангел Господень, укрепляющий нас в смертельной тоске, и мы получим силу вынести всякое испытание.
