BEGINNING OF GREAT LENT. The Rules of Great Lent: Fish is permitted on the Feasts of the Annunciation to the Most-holy Theotokos (April 7) and the Entry of the Lord into Jerusalem (April 9). Wine and oil are permitted on all Saturdays and Sundays of Lent, with the exception of Great and Holy Saturday (April 15), when only wine is permitted); on March 29, the Eve of the St Andrew Standing, and April 13, Great Thursday. Wine but not oil is permitted on April 15, Great Saturday. On all other days of Great Lent, we abstain from fish, wine and oil.
