RULES of the Dormition Fast: In this Fast, the Church calls upon us to emulate the Mother of God, who, prior to her translation into Heaven, was engaged in fasting and prayer without ceasing. The Dormition Fast is not as strict as Great Lent but is stricter than the Apostles' Fast and the Nativity Fast. On Saturdays and Sundays consuming wine and oil is permitted. According to the Church ustav, eating fish is permitted on the Feast of the Holy Transfiguration of the Lord.

Dear Brothers and Sisters, Welcome!
Our site features articles in Russian and English on the Holy Orthodox Faith along with audio and video presentations, chronicling the life of our parish - the only church community in the United States founded in 1949 by St. John of Shanghai and San Francisco. All of the original articles and most videos on this site are property of our parish and may be freely used to the glory of God with permission.
Today’s Gospel reading tells us about one of Christ’s spectacular miracles. It has a purely earthly dimension—people being fed, but is also a teaching for all times, showing us how to be Christians.
