"Go, and do likewise” (Luke 10: 37)

Meditation:
Having related the parable of the Good Samaritan, the Savior draws from it a conclusion applicable to the listener. That person probably did not expect such a conclusion, and would not have come to it himself. He only wanted to stump the Savior by asking Him one of those elusive, ambiguous questions which these teachers of the law liked to discuss among themselves. The Savior answers him, but simultaneously addresses his conscience and enters into the depth of his heart. He does not want this light which has suddenly been shown him to remain fruitless. He wants this light to be reflected in the entire life of the man, prompting him to act, and giving him the will and desire for active goodness: “Go, and do likewise”.

Let us also not be satisfied with only reading the word of God and thinking about and discussing it. All knowledge implies obligation. Every word of Holy Scripture, every sermon, every event which we witness, has a moral precept which we must apply to ourselves and accept for our life. Truth is a seed given us by God in order that we sow it on our life’s path in deeds of love and charity. Then God’s seed will come up for us in eternity, producing in our lives, often unnoticed by us, hundredfold fruit. “Go, and do likewise”.

«Иди, и ты поступай так же» (Лк. 10:37)

Рассказав притчу о Самарянине, Спаситель выводит из нее заключение, примененное к слушателю. Человек этот, вероятно, не ожидал такого заключения и сам бы к нему не пришел. Он хотел только озадачить Спасителя, обратившись к Нему с одним из тех неуловимых, двусмысленных вопросов, которые эти представители закона любили разбирать между собой. Спаситель отвечает ему, но при этом обращается к его совести и проникает в глубину его сердца. Он не хочет, чтобы этот свет, внезапно открытый ему, оставался бесплодным. Он хочет, чтобы свет этот отразился на всей жизни этого человека, побуждая его к действию, вселяя в него силу воли и стремление к деятельному добру: «Иди, и ты поступай так же».

Не будем же и мы довольствоваться одним чтением слова Божия, размышлениями, рассуждениями о нем. Всякое знание вызывает обязанность. Каждое слово Священного Писания, каждая проповедь, каждое происшествие, которого мы свидетели, несет в себе нравоучение, которое мы должны применить к себе и внести в свою жизнь. Истина есть семя, данное нам Богом для того, чтобы и мы сеяли его на нашем жизненном пути в делах любви и милосердия. Тогда семя Божие произрастет для нас в вечности, дав в жизни нашей часто не заметный для нас самих плод сторицею. «Иди, и ты поступай так же».
