Meditation on Scripture: Mark 16:1-4 "Removing The Heavy Stone"

“Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome… were on their way to the tomb at sunrise and they asked each other, ‘Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb?’  But when they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had been rolled away” (Mark 16:1-4)

Meditation:
How often there is a heavy stone on our path, a big hindrance to achieving our goal, and it seems that there is no possibility of removing it. We feel powerless and repeat the words of the myrrh-bearing women: ‘Who will roll the stone away?’ And what happened? Where for them there was the main obstacle, it was exactly there that unexpected joy awaited them: the stone was already rolled away, and they learned of the Resurrection of the Lord!

What a lesson we should learn from this story! Let us rely completely on the Lord, not permitting a shadow of doubt, and an angel of the Lord will descend to our thorny path. He will take away the stone, and when we find ourselves before that which frightened us before, we will see that, by God’s mercy, it has become a joy for us and has become light in weight.

День за днем. 5 (18) июля
«Мария Магдалина и Мария Иаковлева и Саломия... приходят ко Гробу при восходе солнца, и говорят между собою: кто отвалит нам камень от двери гроба? И, взглянувши, видят, что камень отвален; а он был весьма велик» (Мк. 16:1–4)

Как часто на нашем пути лежит тяжелый камень, сильное препятствие к достижению нашей цели, и нам кажется, что нет никакой возможности его удалить. Мы чувствуем себя бессильными и повторяем слова жен мироносиц: «Кто отвалит нам камень?» И что же? Где для них было главное препятствие, там именно встретила их нежданная радость: камень был уже отвален, и они узнали о Воскресении Господнем!

Каким уроком должен служить для нас этот рассказ! Будем полагаться всецело на Господа, не допуская в себе и тени сомнения, и Ангел Господень сойдет на наш тернистый путь. Он устранит камень, и когда мы очутимся перед тем, что заранее нас страшило, – мы увидим, что оно, милостью Божиею, обратилось для нас в радость и стало легким.
