On Thursday, March 24, the vicar bishops, cleric, and matushkas of the Eastern American Diocese visited the Hillwood Museum, home to a unique collection of Russian art and antiquity from the Imperial period. The museum "was the last residence of cereal heiress Marjorie Merriweather Post (1887-1973). Possessing of a fabulous collection of Russian and French decorative art masterpieces from the 18th century, she furnished her home with the full intention of having it converted to a museum after her death. The museum, opened here in 1977, is one of the best art collector house museums in the country. Among its treasurers are family jewels of the Romanov dynasty, Fabergé Easter eggs, and other masterful jewelry, Russian icons, French tapestries, and Sèvres porcelain. Gardens beautifully frame the museum, while photographs and other memorabilia reminder visitors that people once lived here" (www.itswashington.com).
A tour of the U.S. capital was then offered for those interested.
